Boston Business Journal Quotes Patrick Terry in Federal budget cuts have small biotechs nervous
Julie M. DonnellyApril 22, 2011
This Boston Business Journal article reports on the announced cuts to Small Business Innovation Research grants administered through the National Institutes of Health (NHI). Local life sciences startup executives are concerned that these cuts will hamper their effort to jumpstart life-saving research in the context of dwindling early-stage funding.
According to Patrick Terry, Principal at Scientia Advisors, "They'll [the NHI] likely award fewer grants for less money, ones they know they can sustain for the three years. If they can only fund the first year, not only does it slow down innovation, but it's wasting taxpayer money."
